Everyone has bad mental health days every once in a while.
Here are 10 things I do when I’m having a bad mental health day
1. Take a long hot shower
I know not everyone loves long or hot showers so you can adjust that but they can be so relaxing and helpful. Need a good cry? Shower. Use some nice body wash, shave, etc. Whatever makes you feel good.
2. Take a bath
I love baths. They’re so great. Get yourself some bubble bath, epsom salts, or a bath bomb and soak for a while.
3. Write in a journal
Sometimes you just need to get it all out. Vent in a journal whether on paper or in a computer document. I actually find this SO helpful most of the time.
Alternately, write a list of 10 things you’re grateful for, 10 things you love, or 10 reasons to smile. Sometimes trying to look on the bright side, trust me I know it’s hard, can help too.
4. Go for a walk
Either getting on the treadmill and turning on a movie or going for a walk outside can help tremendously. Get those endorphins going. This also helps if you’re having body image issues (🙋🏻♀️).
5. Go for a run
Obviously has the same benefits as going for a walk but you’re putting more effort into it. Sometimes your feet pounding the pavement, or the treadmill, is great therapy.
6. Talk to someone
A friend, family member, therapist, or even an online or over the phone help group. Venting to someone can do wonders in getting you through a tough spot. I have one friend who is my ears when I’m having a bad day and I am SO beyond grateful for that.
7. Listen to music
Music is a lifesaver. Seriously. I have my Spotify going pretty much all the time(not sponsored! I just LOVE it). I’m one of those people who pretty much only
If you want some happy music there are tons of playlists to choose wherever you listen to music or you can just create your own.
8. Do something creative
Love to paint? Write amazing songs? Can you play the piano? Sew? Build something? Can you bake or cook?
Throwing yourself into something creative can really help on those bad mental health days.
9. Read a book
Sometimes you just need to escape for a while and that’s okay too. Find a genre you’re into and hangout in another world for a little while. In fact, I’m going to pick up a book right after I finish this post. Please send me some book suggestions! I have way too many on my reading list but I’m always looking for more lmao.
10. Do something for someone else
Even something as easy as leaving a nice comment on an instagram post can make someones day and maybe make you feel a bit brighter.
Bonus: Take a nap
Ever heard that a nap is basically the human version of “Turn it off and then back on again?” Yeah I love my naps, y’all.
I hope you were able to find something on this list to help you with those sucky bad mental health days. Let me know in the comments if you have any more ideas 🙂
