Those Random Interests…

You know those random interests that you just love learning about? Maybe you’ll never actually need the information but you love reading and learning it all anyway. I’ve got a few.

I love King Tut and Ancient Egypt. I think it’s absolutely fascinating. If I had just one chance to go back in time and see something or meet someone, I would probably choose that. My family does not understand my fascination at all and is grossed out by 97% of the things I show them involving it. Their loss.

I love true crime. I’m a week or two behind on the Crime Junkie Podcast but don’t worry, I’m still completely obsessed with it. It’s terrifying and fascinating and I just want to know everything.

Lifelong Interest

Something that I’ve always been fascinated by, even more than that other stuff, is birth. As a kid I watched A Baby Story religiously. I’ve had baby fever since the day I was born so that kind of show was right up my alley. If I wasn’t incapable of handling medical things in real life situations(or let’s be honest, usually even hypothetical ones) I would have gone down the path of a labor and delivery nurse.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve occasionally found myself reading birth stories and articles for hours at a time. I’ve watched videos and created Pinterest boards. Already know how I’d like to give birth, even though I’m not even dating right now.

The way the body handles birth is incredible. It knows exactly what to do. Even though medical intervention has become so common, many times it’s not even needed. I love knowing that I have options. As someone who is incredibly anxious pretty much all of the time, I love knowing what happens. How everything works, what the stages of labor are, that it’s actually better for you to not be on your back. Being prepared is everything.

I see comments all the time when I’m reading from new moms who say that they didn’t do any research at all on birth or postpartum before having their baby and I’m like ???? HOW?? WHY?? I mean, girl, you do you. But that just seems irresponsible and terrifying to me.

Basically

Anyways, I just think learning about things because it’s fun and fascinating is the best and a million times better than learning about things because you have to do it for a grade.

And I’d love to hear what you all love to research for fun too so comment away… 🙂
