A New Direction

I recently did something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I quit my job. My last day of work is tomorrow. I’m so excited to leave because I’ve been miserable the entire two years of working at this company but there is a lot of unknown right now that is also super scary.

First of all, I didn’t apply for any new jobs and I don’t plan to. There were a few days spent looking through job listings online but none of them really seemed like a good fit. I don’t want to be stuck. I like having flexibility and I want to be able to go help out in my mom’s first-grade class for the day or take a spontaneous trip in the middle of the week.

What am I going to do instead? Well, that’s the tricky part. For the last couple of years, I’ve earned a small amount each month from my Redbubble account. I’ve sold on Etsy on and off. I’ve sold some stuff on eBay before. So I decided if I want to have flexibility and not have to answer to other people I would need to work for myself and find a way to make one of these things work.

Passive income

I decided that I would continue with my Redbubble account. It takes very little time from me and once I upload a design it just becomes passive income. My goal is to get to over 200 designs in my shop by the end of the year. I’m currently at 51 so I’ve got a lot of work to do before the end of the year. I want to try some new styles and work on my graphic design skills as part of this.

Flipping?

I also decided to start flipping. Not houses, yet. But items I find for cheap and can sell for more. I officially completed my first flip this morning for a profit of $130! So exciting! You can read about that on my flipping Instagram. My biggest challenge with this is that I currently don’t drive so I’m only sourcing (buying things to resell) online. This limits me a bit but I’m sure I will be able to improve on that soon. I’ve always wanted to flip houses but obviously with no money that is a little difficult at the moment. My current goal is to get to the point with flipping regular items that I can get some rental properties in the future and have those as an extra income.

Transcription

The third thing I’m doing for additional income is transcribing for Rev.com. I’m sure you’ve probably seen them on every side-hustle list ever. That’s how I found out about them! I applied the other night and was accepted the next morning. It was super surprising that they got through my application and tests so fast! To apply you have to take both a grammar test and a transcription test. They encourage you to use google to check your answers so the tests aren’t too hard. I’m still in my training with them (which is paid!) but after I get 40 more minutes of transcription done and keep my metrics high enough I will be a full Revver and make more per minute. I love this because you get to choose the projects you work on and can work as little or as much as you want. I plan on using Rev to at least pay my phone bill every month. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make even a little more.

The blog?

I obviously have this blog and need to start putting a lot more work into it. I have a bad habit of starting blogs and then not doing anything with them for weeks or months at a time. In an effort to stop doing that, and to share my flipping journey, I’m going to start posting my flips on here. Probably as more of a weekly round up than just posting every time something sells. I think that would just be too much for literally everyone. I’ll obviously still be posting more life stuff and all that but flipping is part of my life now so we’ll see where that goes.

Maybe in the future

Lastly, I have an idea for an Etsy shop that I’ve wanted to do for a while. I honestly don’t know if I’ll do it or when I could but I’ve wanted to start a sticker/decal shop for the longest time now. I’ve bought nail decals and other similar stuff on Etsy and I love that kind of stuff so I’d like to eventually do that. Just not right now because I think I have enough on my plate at the moment.

I have a few trips coming up this year (You can read my post on that here) and only ONE of them is completely paid for so I am going to have to work my butt off to get the money for the rest of them. It’s possible, I know, but it’s going to take a lot of work. Luckily, I have one more small paycheck coming from work and a whole lot of newly empty time ahead. Time to figure out how to live my dreams.
